Black Friday Sales – The Siren Call

Unless you live under a rock, you’ll have noticed ’tis the season of sales and pressure to SAVE by BUYING NOW! The truth is that most manufacturers have an overabundance of stock they are highly motivated to move (by lowering prices) before end of year comes calling. If you need or have been wanting something but pricing gave you pause, I support paying less for it. However, there is a slippery slope to bargain shopping with which you may already be familiar – it’s no savings if you don’t need it in the first place.

Uniformly, I recommend online shopping as an antidote for low size inventory, understaffed stores and time saving. Black Friday is the calling card for these current day, in-store norms. And yet for those of us who are drawn like crows to shiny objects (me), who enter a fugue state when online discounts relentlessly appear in our inboxes and Instagram feeds (also me), staying home can also be difficult to navigate vis a vis overspending and over-consuming.

No matter whether online or in-person, if you are wading into the deep waters of **Black Friday Sales**, I encourage you to draw up a tight list and keep it handy like a trusted treasure map. Be intentional when shopping by prioritizing your purchases and giving yourself a budget per item of what you are willing and able to spend (*note – these are not always the same!). We are wired to leap for savings, and yes, shopping gives us endorphin, adrenaline and dopamine rushes. Buying something you don’t need or truly love just because it is on sale is definitely a regret-inducing bummer. I want better than that for you this holiday season and always!

May the force be with you,

x Stephanie
