Testimonial – Ann Cherkis

The visual impact of the closet organization was deeply satisfying and has made going into my closet every day very comforting. Life is so chaotic, and it feels even more so if the world around me is a mess, so it’s become a really nice way to start the day with order and control, knowing every item in there is something I love and fits me. Secondly, it allowed me to notice what I do and don’t wear, and as a result I developed the habit of pulling out things that don’t work over time for whatever reason for donation. I don’t think I will ever get over the sheer volume of bags you took away for donation – I felt like such a pack rat. The way you organized it all has helped me maintain it, largely because it made me realize I like having fewer, better things. Now I always work toward that goal.

I’ve always been a lover of fashion and a bargain hunter – I so appreciate what I see in magazines even if I will never have an occasion to wear much of that kind of clothing – and I never want to pay full price. Our session clarified that if I want better quality and designer clothing, I had to change my buying habits. It’s actually had a big effect on my life; I don’t buy a lot of fast fashion, I wait patiently for sales, and I have invested in a wardrobe that now has a number of really amazing pieces. I’m much pickier but I’m always glad I bought the real, on-sale iteration of something instead of the knockoff that I might have bought previously. Now I know I can go for that really extra-special piece once or twice a year, and I love that. That’s how I got a favorite Comme des Garcons jacket.

In the writers’ room, I don’t have to dress up – it’s quite a casual workplace that way – but I do it for myself, because I like to feel good, which in turn has a bleed-over effect on my work and mood. I believe fashion is art, and I love to express myself and my creativity through clothes as well as my writing.

What you did in my closet had a tremendous impact on my life – ten years later and I still aspire to be organized. It freed up my closet space and it freed up my brain.
